Job Summary: The Outside Sales Representative generates sales with new and existing customers by understanding their business, identifying their needs, pitching relevant products, and ensuring they have a positive experience. We are looking for a positive, outgoing outside sales representative to help growers, retailers, and related businesses in the Mid-Atlantic territory (NJ/NYC/Long Island, Eastern PA, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, West Virginia, and Virginia). Based from your home office, 50% travel required, some overnight travel.

Responsibilities

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  1. Manages, develops, and grows the assigned territory by exhibiting a thorough knowledge of the industry, the customer’s business needs and product capabilities.
  2. Identifies potential new customers through various channels, prepares sales materials and arranges meetings to introduce the company and its products.
  3. Keeps customers informed of market trends and associated product offerings.
  4. Serves as a profitability resource to customers by suggesting ways to reduce cost, increase margin or expand growing space.
  5. Submits and processes orders ensuring customers receive the products or services they require and within the anticipated period. Provides effective follow-up contact with customers. Assesses the customer’s satisfaction with the product and service provided. 6. Works with internal departments to resolve customer issues promptly.
  6. Participates in ongoing training and workshops and attends networking events to develop and maintain an understanding of industry trends, product knowledge, and network.
  7. Prepares reports and provides feedback in support of sales initiatives to management and marketing departments.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Meets or exceeds KPI’s set for sales, new customer acquisition, customer retention and growth.
  • Works independent of supervision. Conducts sound business decisions around travel and expense management.
  • Collaborates well with other departments to ensure a good customer experience.

Key Challenges:

  • The company is growing rapidly, and integration of systems and processes is ongoing.
  • This is an outside sales position and extensive travel is required.

Required Skills and Experience

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or marketing preferred. A minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience as an outside sales representative.
  • 2-3 years of commercial growing experience within the hydroponics retail segment helpful.
  • Strong customer service mentality essential.
  • Ability to learn and apply diverse customer, vendor, or third-party requirements.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of products and make recommendations.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with customers.
  • Ability to work with current sales representatives.
  • Excellent Excel and general computer skills. (Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word)
